Andr - shhh, it’s under my bed (2024)

shhh, it’s under my bed is a genre-blurring masterpiece blending bedroom pop, indie vibes, and bilingual charm. With lush production, intimate lyrics, and experimental textures, it’s a sonic treasure trove that feels both deeply personal and universally relatable.

Why Listen?

Andr’s debut album feels like cracking open a diary that’s equal parts confessional and fantastical. From its first note, the album invites listeners to step into Andr’s world—a place where bedroom pop meets indie rock, and bilingual whispers thread through lush, experimental soundscapes. It’s not just an album; it’s a sonic scrapbook of memories, fears, and dreams tucked under the metaphorical bed of her psyche.

Andr doesn’t just blur genres—she obliterates them, crafting a sound that’s as unpredictable as it is intimate.

The concept behind the album is wonderfully whimsical yet deeply introspective. Andr draws inspiration from childhood fears of monsters lurking under the bed and teenage secrets stashed in shoeboxes. These themes evolve into a metaphor for her creative process: starting in the shadows of her bedroom and emerging into the public eye with sharp horns and peculiar mumblings. It’s as if she’s inviting listeners to uncover their own hidden corners while exploring hers—a journey both nostalgic and cathartic.

Sonically, shhh, it’s under my bed is a playground of textures. Andr and producer Han Likang experiment with everything from environmental samples to raw acoustic moments. Take “Yarn” for example: the track features not just Andr’s delicate guitar work but also the accidental sound of her stomach growling during recording—a quirky detail she chose to keep for its authenticity. This commitment to imperfection gives the album a rawness that feels refreshingly human in an era of over-polished pop.

Ultimately, shhh, it’s under my bed is more than an album—it’s an experience. Andr captures the essence of Taiwan's burgeoning indie scene while carving out a space entirely her own. Her ability to blend personal vulnerability with experimental artistry makes this debut a must-listen for anyone craving music that challenges conventions while tugging at your heartstrings.

In short, this is not just an album you stream—it’s one you live in.

Curator's Note:

Andr for me is indie music personified. You can tell she was a born musician but also put in her 10,000 hours before releasing her debut album. It's like she has 4 full albums worth of unreleased songs from her bedroom sessions. "Swapping Socks" stood out to me as a highlight. Also check out her "Bear Cave" session!
