Billlie - The Billage of Perception: Chapter Three (2023)

The Billage of Perception: Chapter Three is K-Pop dipped in gold—a lavish blend of funky basslines, dreamy vocals, and conceptual depth that feels downright EXPEN$IVE. Dubbed “the 2nd coming of Red Velvet”, Billlie proves they’re not just heirs to the throne—they’re building their own empire.

Why Listen?

Billlie, often dubbed "the 2nd coming of Red Velvet", has been quietly redefining what it means to be a K-Pop group. With The Billage of Perception: Chapter Three, the seven-member ensemble proves they’re not just following in the footsteps of their SM Entertainment predecessors—they’re carving out their own opulent lane.

This album feels like flying in a private jet while sipping metaphorical champagne: exclusive, refined, and undeniably EXPEN$IVE. If you’re curating a playlist for discerning ears, this EP deserves a prime spot.

Listening to Billlie is like stepping into an audio art gallery. The lush production on Chapter Three is layered with smooth-as-silk vocals and effortlessly cool arrangements. Tracks like "EUNOIA" and "various and precious (moment of inertia)" blend funky basslines, shimmering synths, and R&B grooves that evoke the polished elegance of Red Velvet's finest moments. Yet, Billlie’s sound remains distinct—less velvet curtains, more avant-garde runway.

The group’s vocal prowess is undeniable. Their harmonies are intricately woven into each track, creating a rich texture that feels both ethereal and grounded. Whether it’s the powerful delivery on "lionheart (the real me)" or the dreamy tones of "enchanted night ~ white night", Billlie’s voices are the sonic equivalent of cashmere: soft yet commanding.

Mixed in top-tier studios and mastered to perfection, this album doesn’t just sound good—it sounds premium. Each track is meticulously crafted, with crisp instrumentals and dynamic layering that make you feel like you’re listening to something rare and exclusive.

True to their reputation as K-Pop’s storytelling mavens, Billlie continues to weave their intricate lore throughout this album. Themes of identity and self-discovery are explored with poetic depth, making the EP as intellectually engaging as it is sonically satisfying.

It’s not just fans who are taking notice—The Billage of Perception: Chapter Three earned a nomination for Best K-Pop Album at the 21st Korean Music Awards. Critics have praised its ability to challenge mainstream trends while delivering tracks that feel timeless yet innovative.

Billlie isn’t just another girl group; they’re an experience. Their ability to merge high-concept storytelling with genre-defying music sets them apart in an industry brimming with talent. If Red Velvet is K-Pop’s haute couture, Billlie is its avant-garde atelier—bold, experimental, and always one step ahead.

Curator's Note:

This is my favorite Billlie album, but check them all out, they're excellent! They debuted around the time of NewJeans, LE SSERAFIM, and IVE, so they got buried under the weight of big labels. Still, I think their fandom is stable and they'll have a long career? Billlie is easily K-Pop's best kept secret!
