I Mother Earth - Scenery and Fish (1996)

Scenery and Fish blends alternative rock with funk, Latin percussion, and progressive elements. Featuring hits like "One More Astronaut", this double-platinum Canadian classic showcases the band's complex musicianship and genre-defying creativity.

Why Listen?

I Mother Earth's Scenery and Fish isn’t just an album—it’s an experience, a sonic journey that demands to be cranked up to 11. From the moment the opening notes hit, you’re pulled into a world where alternative rock collides with funk, Latin percussion, and progressive rock in ways that feel both adventurous and timeless.

The mixing and mastering on this record are nothing short of spectacular—crisp, clear, and clean enough to make every guitar riff, bass groove, and conga slap pop like it’s happening live in your living room.

Maybe it’s that clarity in the production or the sheer brilliance of the earworm melodies, but these songs have a way of sailing straight into your brain and anchoring themselves there for decades. Seriously, you’ll wake up 20 years from now with "One More Astronaut" playing in your head as vividly as if you heard it yesterday.

This is road trip music at its finest—the kind of album you throw on when you’ve got a good sound system that can pump out those deep basslines and intricate percussion. It’s a journey within a journey, putting you in a flow state where the miles melt away as you vibe along to fusion rock perfection.

And let’s be real: this isn’t background music. Scenery and Fish is meant to be played LOUD. It’s an album that rewards volume, where every layer of sound reveals itself the higher you crank it up.

Whether you’re discovering it for the first time or rediscovering it after years away, Scenery and Fish is a must-listen masterpiece—a genre-defying gem that’s as fresh today as it was in 1996.

Curator's Note:

A must listen for anyone into rock music. Driving drums, funky bass, crunchy guitar, deep lyrics, jam sessions. What more do you need? This album takes me back to high school when we'd go to the local arcade for lunch break and play pool while this blasted on the jukebox. I had so much fun I skipped next period and had to take adult education courses to graduate later. Haha!
